Acupuncture - Traditional Chinese Treatment

Posted by amrikholder on 6th octobre 2007

By Michael Russell Acupuncture forms part of traditional Chinese medicine. Included are Chinese herbalism, tai chi and chi kung. It is believed that traditional Chinese medicine originated around 2500BC and is one of the oldest forms of treatment. Acupuncture did not really become well known in Western countries until the 1950s, except for the few Chinese practitioners treating Chinese patients in those countries such as Britain. Today, even some orthodox physicians are trained in acupuncture and are incorporating it with western medicine and achieving great results. Acupuncture is centered on Tao philosophy, like the other forms of Chinese medicine. It is based on the philosophy that a vital energy (force) flows along invisible channels in the body with the inseparable opposing forces of yin and yang, which govern each person. ‘Yin’ is a masculine, active and positive force and ‘yang’, a female, passive and negative force. When this energy (chi) freely flows through these invisible channels (meridians) and the yin and yang are balanced, the result is health. If the yin and yang are unbalanced and the chi is blocked, the results become noticeable in the form of illness. The purpose therefore of acupuncture is to correct these imbalances and unblock the meridians, allowing the chi to flow freely once again in the body restoring the patient to physical health. Another form of acupuncture called auricular therapy is based solely on the external ear, which contains its own acupuncture points. This type of therapy is very useful for acute conditions. People suffering from allergies, asthma, bronchitis and other conditions may benefit by acupuncture. Acupuncture is also helpful in relieving pain. Acupuncture aids the body to release its very own pain-reliever, known as endorphins, which has effects similar to morphine. The success of the acupuncture also depends on the responsiveness of the patient. Some people seem to be more responsive than others especially children that receive treatment. During the initial consultation the practitioner will ask questions about the patients history, the present complaint, life style, diet and exercise routines and emotional health. Skin colour, the state of the nails, eyes and tongue, body odour and careful examination of the pulse points form part of the diagnosis. The human body contains 59 meridians and about 1000 pressure points. To treat imbalances the acupuncturist will stimulate the pressure points that occur along the meridians. Inserting fine, solid needles into the skin, applying heat and fingertip pressure form part of stimulation. The points involved are usually found on the forearms, hands, feet and lower legs. Sometimes all three methods of stimulation may be used. Treatment may include recommendations on diet and exercise. Always ensure you choose a fully trained and registered practitioner when seeking acupuncture treatment. Inform the practitioner of any orthodox treatment you may be receiving before diagnosis or treatment in acupuncture. Acupuncture is most often used in conjunction with Chinese herbalism, as it can be contraindicated with some forms of complementary therapy. Parents should always consult an acupuncturist who has had special training in the treatment of children, before embarking on a diagnosis in acupuncture. The treatment for children will consist mainly of fingertip pressure (acupressure) to the relevant acupuncture points, rather than applying the more traditional method of needles. Taste Of Honey

Posted by amrikholder on 5th octobre 2007

By Andrew Krause Honey Is Probably The Best Source Of Natural Sugar. Honey has been around since before the age of man, somewhere in the beginning man found that honey in the comb of the beehive is truly pleasant to the taste and also useful. In Ancient times it was called the nectar of the gods. Honey is sweet due to it’s content of sugar; it also contains many of the minerals which are necessary for the growth and health of our bodies. Unlike cane and beet sugar when ingested into the digestive process into a sugar called dextrose and laevulose then breaks down our bodies. This process has already taken place in honey. Sugar is what the body gets its energy from. Laevulose is twice as sweet as cane sugar and Dextrose is about half as sweet as cane sugar. Honey contains minerals such as iron, copper, manganese, calcium and phosphorus.
Honey is a pleasant, safe, wholesome food for adults and children alike. Honey varies in color due to the type of flower the bee extracts the nectar from for the honey.
Honey can also be added to cheesecake, cream cheese, different foods, you can have a wedding cake made with honey, and all of your baked goods can be made with honey Andrew Krause is a Chef and Pastry Chef for over 30 years, at present I am retired, for 23 years I owned a Gourmet Bakery called The Cheese Confectioner. Workplace Bully

Posted by amrikholder on 4th octobre 2007

By Edward Lewis Facts

Workplace bullying is also known as “workplace harassment” or “mobbing”. Tim Field of bullyonline.org defines workplace bullying as a “persistent, unwelcome, intrusive behavior of one or more individuals whose actions prevent others from fulfilling their duties.” Workplace bullying is repeatedly attacking someone verbally or physically with the intent of causing hurt, humiliation, belittlement, isolation and discrimination. Sexual harassment and racial, gender, disability, and age discrimination are also forms of workplace bullying. The bully can be an employer, peer, subordinate, or even client or supplier. The typical bully uses aggression and violence to compensate for overwhelming feelings of inadequacy. Some bullies suffer from mental health disorders (such as the Narcissistic, Paranoid and Antisocial personality disorders). Most bullies lack self-discipline, the ability to pursue long-term goals, or to work in a team. According to the United Kingdom (UK) National Workplace Bullying Advice Line, bullies feel entitled to special treatment, seek attention, lack empathy, are rageful and envious, exploit and then discard their co-workers, and are consummate liars. In other words, bullies are emotionally immature and are exploitative control freaks. Bullying is a traumatic, stressful experience that often results in the mental breakdown and otherwise ill-health of the victim. Physical and mental health problems, fatigue, low functioning, and even suicide are common. The victims can no longer be productive at work and are sometimes forced to resign even as the bully is rewarded and promoted.
Surveys in the UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and the USA indicate that physical violence in the workplace is rare, but one in five workers is exposed to verbal and emotional abuse. The direct and indirect costs - in healthcare, increased workloads, stunted creativity, staff turnover, reduced productivity, absenteeism, and corporate dysfunction - may amount to circa $40 billion in the UK and $200 billion in the United States. Only few countries - such as Sweden and the United Kingdom - have specific laws which tackle workplace violence, abuse, and bullying. Workers and employers lack education on how to recognize abuse, curb it, and effectively cope with its aftermath.
Workplace bullying is exacerbated by socially-sanctioned conduct such as denial, narcissism (http://www.tipsofallsorts.com/narcissism.html), exploitation, and rampant competition.

How To Handle The Bully
Do not be afraid. Believe in nothing whatsoever the bully has been saying to you. A bully works best with LIES and DECEPTION. Do not succumb! You are not the problem, the bully is! Talk to your family or close friends. Let it out of your head, do not bury it inside. It is good to know that there will be people supporting you. Keep a record of what has happened, e.g. the words used, the actions taken, the frequency, venue and time. Collect proof. Your records will come in very useful when you want to prove who is the bully or when planning to take legal action. Talk to a person in high position in the company about what has been going on. If the person refuses to believe in you, talk to the local unions, or employment governing bodies for advice. You don’t drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there. — Edwin Louis Cole No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. — Eleanor Roosevelt You can get better…or you can get bitter. — Anonymous Courage is mastery of fear, not absence of fear. — Mark Twain

When You’re Considering a Home Equity Loan

Posted by amrikholder on 2nd octobre 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Anthony_S.]Anthony S. The average American has about $10,000 worth of credit card debt. Consider the high costs of daily living that can be attributed to children, food, healthcare, high gas prices plus the extras, and its quite easy to see why many Americans are struggling. Many people have turned to their most valuable asset, their home, in order to get out of debt and to get back on track. Home equity loans have helped many individuals do just that. A home equity loan allows the homeowner to take out the equity in their home in one lump sum. The loan must be paid back after a set period of time at a fixed interest rate. Payments must be made every month. This type of loan is so attractive because it allows the borrower to secure a big amount of cash at a low interest rate. Home equity loans can be a very good way to pay off debts, make home improvements, secure a big purchase or simply cash out. Another great advantage of home equity loans is that the interest one pays on the first $100,000 is tax deductible. This is in contrast to credit cards or other unsecured debts, where you get absolutely no tax benefit. It is important to note that a home equity loan is a secured loan. It uses ones home as collateral. This means that if an individual fails to repay the loan, their home will be repossessed. It is for this reason that anyone contemplating a home equity loan be absolutely sure that they can re-pay the loan. If they later find they cannot, not only will their house be lost, but any equity as well. Home equity loans can be a good option for individuals needing to borrow money in order to pay off credit card debt, pay for college tuition or make home improvements. This type of loan allows for a big cash out at a low interest rate with tax benefits. However, home equity loans are not without their risks. Because this type of loan uses ones home as collateral, it is absolutely imperative that anyone who chooses to use this type of loan is able to repay it. Stomach Crunches Are Too Difficult-Help!

Posted by amrikholder on 25th septembre 2007

By Tim Webb I find lots of people need an alternative to the
basic stomach crunch often taught as the ‘cure all’
for all abdominal excess. I know of many people who do hundreds of crunches
each day and their abdominal section still looks
podgy, but that is for another article! Most people do not realise that you can literally
work your abdominals quite hard from a standing
position. If you are willing to squeeze your muscles and
breathe in a certain way you can get a decent,
sweat inducing, core workout! ***Old school training is still relevant*** It seems that some of the ‘old school’ exercises
used by fitness pioneers and fighters in years
gone by can still be useful in sculpting the
body. The only problem is many of the simple yet effective
training methods were forgotten in favour of expensive
gym equipment and supplements. Of course in some ways these changes are a good thing
as exercises become safer. However, much can still be
taken from how these old pioneers used their breath and
body to become fitter and healthier. ***The key is in the squeeze*** An effective way to give the abdominals a good workout
is simply to amalgamate an exhalation with abdominal
tension. Repeated this can strengthen core muscles while
strengthening internal organs. ***Safety first*** In my opinion a dangerous aspect of such exercises
used to be that breath retention while squeezing
core muscles was advocated. Anyone with high blood pressure may be in danger
performing such exercises. This can be remedied though by simply breathing out
while tensing abdominal muscles to allow this
potentially dangerous pressure to, essentially,
drain away. Also, not utilising one hundred percent muscle
contractions is important for beginners as
doing this may, initially, be too much for
muscles to bear thus leading to injury. ***Exercise*** 1. Stand comfortably, preferably near fresh air. 2. Inhale into your belly. 3. Gently squeeze your abdominals while exhaling. 4. Slowly increase intensity of the squeeze. 5. Repeat ten times. 6. Done with (careful) vigour abdominals will be thoroughly worked, internal organs massaged and stimulated, and a healthy sweat generated. Do this each morning for a month and feel how much
firmer your abdominals become! (c) Tim Webb 2007 Do You Want To Learn Deep Breathing Exercises For

Engagement Ring - The Promise Of Things To Come

Posted by amrikholder on 22nd septembre 2007

By Michael Russell Love is supposed to be pure, yet it always seems to be around when money is exchanged. In the early days, the groom was required to give gifts to the bride’s parents as part of the marriage agreement. Since the parents of the bride were losing her to another family, they needed to be compensated. During these times, the engagement ring was not only given as a symbol of the groom’s intentions, but also as partial payment for his future wife. The engagement ring has gone through many changes. Some of the earliest rings were nothing more than plants wrapped around the woman’s finger. Of course, these had to be replaced each year. Some rings were made of iron, to symbolize the permanent nature of marriage. Early Roman rings were simple bands with a carved key. Some thought the key symbolized a woman unlocking her man’s heart; while others believed the key was a sign of ownership, because after marriage, the woman would get half her husband’s wealth. The ring finger appears to have more mystery than the ring itself. The fourth finger on the left hand, has long been regarded as the ring finger. Legend has it that a vein of love connected the fourth finger to the heart, but of course this wasn’t true. In fact, some cultures believed it was the third finger that had the vein of love. Before the 1500s, Christian tradition required rings to be worn on the third finger of the right hand. In some European countries, the ring is worn on the left hand before marriage and is moved to the right hand during the ceremony. Since grooms aren’t paying the family of the brides any more, what is the purpose of the engagement ring? The bride will get a wedding ring, so are two rings really necessary. When you consider the costs involved with a wedding, reception and honeymoon, an engagement ring appears to be an extravagance born out of tradition and not common sense. The lack of money causes a lot of problems in a marriage and is usually a major factor, if the marriage ends. So maybe the money for the engagement ring should be placed in the bank, to help with future expenses. And giving an engagement ring doesn’t always lead to marriage. People change their minds all the time about who they love and how much they love them. If there is no wedding, what happens to the engagement ring. The ring was a gift, but it was given with the presumption of marriage. If there is no marriage then maybe the ring should be returned. It shouldn’t matter why the relationship ended, or who ended it. No one should financially benefit from a broken engagement. Whether the engagement ring serves a purpose doesn’t matter, it almost seems mandatory that you give one, if you expect to be married. It’s funny how relationships start out, being about love and commitment, but in the end, they always seem to come back to money. Silver; Not Just a Medium of Monetary Exchange, But As an Antibiotic

Posted by amrikholder on 17th septembre 2007

By Peter Salazar Historically, silver has long been used for the preservation of food and water. Before there were other means of preservation, silver was used for the same reasons colloidal silver is used now as a mineral supplement. Food and drink vessels, as well as eating utensils have been made with silver since mankinds earliest years. The following anecdote from the writings of the Greek philosopher, Herodotus, before the birth of Christ, references this fact. The Greek historian Herodotus, called the “Father of History”, is one of our prime sources for information known about the fall of Babylon. Herodotus lived a century after the time of Daniel and traveled widely in the East. In his “Histories”, we learn of the campaign of Persia’s King Cyrus against Babylon. The details include the fact that no Persian king, including Cyrus, would drink the water of any stream other than the Choaspes, a river that flowed past the Persian capital of Susa. Wherever the king went, a long train of four-wheeled mule wagons followed him transporting silver jars filled with the river’s water. The water in silver jars would keep fresh for years during the long campaigns. The Greeks were not the only civilization to take advantage of silvers health-encouraging properties. The Phoenicians, Romans, Egyptians and most people around the world used silver in one form or another to preserve food and water. For example, during the Dark Ages in Europe, silver utensils, cups and bowls were used to help protect the wealthy from the full impact of the widespread pandemics. A common expression, used to this day, “born with a silver spoon in their mouth” comes from these Dark Ages and refers to the advantages of silver. In these days when diseases ran rampant, the wealthy gave their children silver spoons to suck on to ward off diseases. Also, in the days of the settling of the American frontier, pioneers commonly used silver coins to slow down the spoilage of milk and water. Although it is not widely known, todays mainstream medicine has utilized silver for its health benefits to an extent. For instance, a silver coated nylon material was patented as “Silvalon” and licensed by FDA as an anti-microbial bandage. Also, a silver-based salve product called “Silvadine has been used for some time now for the treatment of burns and is in virtually every burn ward in America to protect burn victims against infection. Another example is the use of dilute silver nitrate in newborn babies’ eyes to protect from infection. Even before people knew the causes of most illnesses, silver served as one of mans most reliable aids in supporting the immune system against those illnesses. In addition, to this day, silver is also being used in food cutting boards, swimming pool and drinking water filters, and water filters for NASA. There is clearly an undeniable history behind the use of silver for health reasons. There is one common link between all of these different uses for silver. This common link to all of the previously discussed uses is based on the fact that in all of them something is needed to prevent the growth and prosperity of disease and infection causing bacteria and germs. Scientific research and evidence indicates that single-celled organisms cannot survive in the presence of silver. According to researchers, silver inhibits the growth of one-celled organisms by deactivating the organisms oxygen metabolism enzymes. As a result, the organisms cell membranes are destroyed and the replication of the organisms DNA is stopped. All of this happens through a completely natural reaction to the silver by the organisms. There is no chemical manipulation by man. There is also some interesting research with silver prior to the advent of patented anti-biotics. A good example that is available on the Internet is “The Use of Colloids in Health and Disease” by Alfred B. Searle, the founder of Searle Pharmaceuticals (now known as Monsanto). Although this book is dated in some respects, it demonstrates the research that had already been done as well as that which was ongoing in the area of colloidal silver before more lucrative patented drugs replaced it in the marketplace. This book cites research done by numerous scientists and documents their findings demonstrating the germicidal properties of silver. One of the most widely publicized concerns today relating to biological warfare and terrorism is the fact that microbes have mutated and become resistant so that patented antibiotics may often be rendered ineffective. On the other hand, research and evidence indicates that one-celled organisms do not have a natural resistance to, nor can they through mutation or natural selection, obtain a resistance to silver’s anti-microbial actions, as they are often able to do with patented products. Again, this is why silver has historically been one of mans most reliable tools in supporting the immune system against various maladies. 17 Guaranteed Ways to Lose Weight

Posted by amrikholder on 15th septembre 2007

By Johnny Lavot 1. Just Get Started Many times, you may hear conflicting information from different sources about how you should go about accomplishing your goals; confused with information, you attempt to analyze the best route of actionbut then you realize that it conflicts with someone elses advice. You end up freezing like a deer stuck in headlights. The best course of action is to just get started and do something! Believe it or not, that is the hardest part anyway! 2. Set Goals You wont get anywhere if you dont know where youre going. This is why it is important to set goals because they will help to show you the correct path to take and will also add further motivation. 3. Focus on Body Fat, Not Body Weight Obviously, this article is entitled 17 Surefire Strategies to Lose Weight, but this isnt what you really want to focus on. An increase in muscle mass and fluctuating water weight can provide you with skewed results. The solution is to measure your progress by several measures of circumference of your different body parts or just buy some calipers. 4. Create a Caloric Deficit Each person burns a certain (changing) numbers of calories per day; this is known as TDEE. In order to cut down on your body fat, you must create a caloric deficit. To do this, simply eat a lower amount of calories than your TDEE. However, you must not reduce your calories by too much, otherwise you will slow down your metabolism; it is best to reduce your calorie consumption by about 750 calories or 20% of your TDEE. 5. Keep Track of Your Caloric Intake Creating a caloric deficit requires a bit of planning. You need to know how many calories are in the foods you eat, and then tally them up to get a total. Doing this may seem like a hassle, but as you become better at this skill and memorize certain foods you can get a better guess of how many calories you have consumed. 6. Higher Satiety, Lower Calories A stomach full of Jello and a stomach full of peanut butter feel the same, but they are worth much different amounts in the world of calories. One strategy that you can use to create a caloric deficit is to eat foods that are more filling, but contain a lower amount of calories. 7. Drink Water In addition to the numerous amount of health benefits that water provides, you can also use it as a drink that provides no calories, but fills you up. Got a craving for that candy bar? Drink some water. 8. Cut Back on Soft Drinks Although drinks like water can make you feel full and provide no calories, they have a low satiety rate because they are easy to digest. A low satiety rate combined with several calories makes soft drinks a hazard to the dieter. Even though many diet soft drinks now contain a low number of calories, the sweeteners can spike insulin levels and also (opinions differ on this) may contain to some health related side effects. 9. Avoid Alcohol Alcohol has a low satiety rate, a relatively high caloric rate (alcohol contains 7 calories per gram), and can also cause you to become thirstier or hungrierever wonder why the bars always have snacks likes peanuts? 10. Avoid Fad Diets Fad diets many times stress a specific part of nutrition without bothering to go over fundamentals like caloric deficits. In addition, most of these diets cause a person to go far below the safety zone in regards to the degree of caloric deficit. This causes the body to think it is starving; therefore, it lowers its TDEE. The cycle then repeats and the person becomes a yo-yo dieter. 11. Eat Complex Carbohydrates Eating complex carbohydrates or carbohydrates with a low glycemic index will help to keep your blood sugar levels stable. When blood sugar levels are not stable, the body begins to store fat. However, eating the type of carbohydrates comes second to creating a caloric deficit. 12. Eat Healthy Fats Not all fats are bad and, even, necessarily fattening. You should strive to avoid fats such as the trans fats or saturated fats. However, fats such as polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats provide numerous health benefits, can help regulate cholesterol, and can even help to further build muscle since they are needed in the synthesis of hormones. However, even with the healthy fats, one should watch the consumption of this nutrient because it does have a high amount of calories (9 calories per gram of fat). 13. Dont Buy Junk Food One easy way to avoid eating unhealthy, caloric dense snacks that would otherwise put you over your set number of calories for a health calorie deficit is to simply not buy them therefore it takes away the convenience you have at your house of eating these foods. 14. Have a Cheat Day Every Once in a While Having a cheat day every now and then (about once a week or less) can help to remind you of the habits you are trying to break and it can also give you a needed break from your regime (not all health foods taste bad though). Cheat days are usually on a person by person basis; not everyone does them. It is your decision as to whether or not you need one. 15. Eat More Frequently An easy way to boost your metabolism and help to keep more of your muscle is to eat more frequently. It is usually recommended to eat roughly 6-8 meals per day instead of the usual three. 16. Aerobic Workouts One way to create a caloric deficit is to reduce the amount of food you eat. The other way is to increase your TDEE; you do this by working out or eating more frequently as stated above. Creating the caloric deficit only through eating initiates a primitive response in the body to think that it is starving; therefore, it is best to create half of your caloric deficit through working out and the other half through a reduction in calorie consumption. The most basic and used form of this is the aerobic workout. 17. Lift Weights In addition to aerobic workouts, one can lift weights to raise the TDEE. The actual process of lifting weights burns extra calories as does the muscle that it builds. Also, muscle will give a healthier, more attractive, and more toned look compared to aerobic training alone. It is best to use both aerobic training and weight lifting in your workout regime. Thats 17 of em. Remember that following just one of these methods will not produce results. You must either follow all or very close to all of them to get the results that you (hopefully) are looking for. A big thing always results from many little things added together.
