The Simple Easy Art Of Making Paper Flowers

By Sarah H Making paper flowers can be both fun and exciting especially if you are into handmade decorations. It is very easy and simple to make, that even the non crafty type person can get into the spirit of making paper flowers, because it only involves simple accordion folding. At the end you will have great looking decorations which were easy and fast to make and cost nothing more than a few dollars for the material which can be purchased at any craft store in your neighborhood. The materials you will need are very basic. All you will need for this of fun creation is one pack of multi colored tissue paper, one pack of green pipe cleaners (a type of brush made from wire which resembles a flower stem when green.) and one pair of scissors. You can also use wire instead of pipe cleaners and tape it up with green floral tape. Now you are ready to begin working. Take four or five sheets of tissue paper in different colors if you want multi colored flowers and lay them out. Cut the sheets of tissue paper into squares of eight inches. Make sure to keep the sheets layered, take one set of squares and fold it into the shape of an accordion so that it looks like a thin rectangle. At the rectangle centre cut a notch in V-shape on both sides, take the end of the pipe cleaner and twist it around the notch, now with the stem pointing straight down gently pull up one layer of tissue paper to the center and then the remainder one by one. Repeat the same process on the other side of the flower. Now that all of the layers are pulled up, they should be fluffed to give the flowers a more natural and realistic look. With the remaining squares repeat the same process and continue making beautiful flowers. For stronger flower stems wrap together two pipe cleaners which also works to make different flower sizes and to give a more realistic looking finish. You can also cut the tissue paper in different sizes, depending on the size of flower that you are trying to create. You could also add more layers of paper for thicker flowers and less paper for thinner flowers. When choosing colors try and select colors that blend in with each other to give a more uniform looking finish. After you have finished making your flowers, it is recommended that you spray them with a little spray starch to make them firmer, thus giving a more professional looking job. It also helps them to last longer and not be susceptible to the touch.
